Abstract

The article analyses the anthological epigrams by A. A. Delvig in the context of the XIX century literature process. The authors of the article notice that when appealing to the genre of antique literature with its peculiar image, direction, slow description, the Russian poet, being a person of his epoch, doesn’t usually develop but only expands his theme. He can’t use the deep mythological interpretation of reality when disclosing his personal life philosophy, for example, regarding the role of death as a means of transformation and elevation of a person. Delvig’s anthological origin connects with the theme of transient world beauty, youth brevity, struggling with the fortune or putting up with it, trusty love, absence of peace in the vanity world, human weakness in front of the fatality, sky-born art etc. Before Delvig, the genre of anthological epigrams appeared in the works of A. K. Vostokov and V. K. Kukhelbeker and due to successful creative works by A. A. Delvig this genre found place in the Russian literature of the beginning of the XIX century and was recognized by many contemporary writers.
